Where the contamination is and where it is coming from. Dust load in the supply and return trunks. Condition of the coil face and the blower compartment. Filtration that is undersized, bypassed or simply never changed. Moisture. Odour sources. Construction debris left in the runs. Registers that were painted shut. We are also looking at how the system is built, because that determines what a cleaning can and cannot fix.
Chicago bungalows and two flats built before 1950 run octopus and gravity ductwork that in many houses has never once been opened. Spring pollen off the DuPage and Kane County tree canopy loads a return filter faster than most homeowners expect. Add a winter where the furnace barely stops and you have a system moving the same loaded air through the same house for five months. That is the pattern behind most of the assessments we run in DuPage, Kane, Will and Cook Counties.
You get the findings and a recommendation. Sometimes that is a full source removal cleaning. Sometimes it is a filtration change and a maintenance interval, and we say so. If the honest answer is that your ducts do not need cleaning yet, we would rather tell you that and be the company you call in two years. The recommendation comes from trained people. Our field technicians hold QUADCA certification in Residential and Light Commercial Air Duct Cleaning, with the required exam passed.
